History

The San Diego Foundation, founded in 1975, has a history of helping people find ways to make a positive impact in our communities. Through more than 2,100 funds, foundation donors have given over $1.3 billion in support of non-profit organizations.

The Gay & Lesbian Fund for San Diego was established in 2008 by a fund holder and former member of The San Diego Foundation Board of Governors. It serves as a means to support inclusive and effective organizations that make our region a better place to be WELL (Work, Enjoy, Live & Learn) today and in the future.

Recipients of the fund's grants publicly recognize their gift as coming from the Gay & Lesbian Fund for San Diego. This recognition helps show the public that philanthropy from our local LGBTQ community supports a wide variety of worthy and inclusive organizations.
